PoE Orbs and Currency System - Overgear Guides (2023)

PoE has an atypical currency system. We are used to the fact that in other games the main currency is gold, PoE has no gold at all. Instead, there are over 20 different coin balls and scrolls. Each ball has a unique specific function and can also act as a coin. This guide will help you understand the value of each orb and give you some tips on how to use and how to obtain them.

Scroll of Wisdom

The Scroll of Wisdom is probably the most common item. This item denotes the gear you want, so only use it for potentially useful gear. You can get it as a drop from monsters or by combining 5x Scroll Fragments obtained by selling white items to a merchant. Don't waste it and pick it up. If you do it right, you will reach thousands of scrolls while leveling. This stack comes in handy if you want to buy a good starter kit. At the end of the game, you can exchange about 300 Scrolls of Wisdom for 1 Chaos Orb.

Like the Scroll of Wisdom, the Portal Scroll is a very common item. The Portal Scroll allows you to summon a portal that will take your character to the current act's city and back. The Portal Scroll is more valuable than the Wisdom Scroll, so you can exchange 80 Scrolls for 1 Chaos Orb. Pick it up and you should be able to fill around 2-3 high level item slots from the scrolls alone.

gunsmith scrap

Armorer's Scrap improves the quality of armor. Based on rarity, it adds 5% quality (normal), 2% quality (magic), or 1% quality (rare and unique) to an item, so smart players don't use it until the end of the game. You can get it as loot, trade it at the vendor, or sell any piece of armor with a combined quality of 40% or higher. Around 160 Gunsmith Remnants can be exchanged for 1 Chaos Orb.

Schmied Wetzstein

It's more or less the same as the previous one, but this one improves the quality of the weapons. Pick it up or use it rationally to increase your DPS a bit to level up (only for physical and elemental damage, does not improve affix stats). By the way, you can get the Cartographer's Chisel if you exchange an upgraded hammer of normal quality for four Blacksmith's Grindstones. For 70 Blacksmith's Grindstones you get 1 Chaos Orb.

Orbs of Augmentation adds an additional affix (modifier) ​​to a magic artifact. It can only be used on items that have 1 mod. It can also be used to create modes in potions. This orb is useful for late-game meta-crafting. You can trade around 55-60 Orb of Augmentation for 1 Chaos Orb, or 32 Orb of Augmentation for 1 Orb of Fusing.

Orb of Transmutation

Used to convert a normal item into a magic item. The new magic item may appear with one or two mods. It's a bit tricky - it has multiple uses. So if you are lucky, after the transformation you can get a much more valuable item and sell it much better. If you're not lucky, save them until later when you can trade them for Chaos Orbs or Orbs of Fusing. You can get it as a drop by selling Unidentified Magic or Rare Items from the merchant, you can also buy it from the merchant for 7x Portal Scrolls.

You can exchange the replacement orbs at the merchant, 11 Chromatic Orbs = 1 Chaos Orb.

Glass Blowing Ball

It's similar to Armorer's Scrap or Blacksmith's Whetstone, but only enhances Flasks. 1 Glassblower's Orb adds 5% quality (normal), 2% quality (magic), and 1% quality (unique) to a glass. Hargan (a merchant in Camp Sarn, Act 3 and 8) can sell a Glassblowing Ornament for 8 Blacksmith's Whetstones. 1 Chaos Orb costs 14 Glassblower Orbs.

Orbe Vaal

Vaal Orb corrupts high level items or cards to increase its potential. Vaal Orb can change the color of the slots to white, change the implicit trait to a specific trait, change the gem level and quality, add or subtract a level to the card. Also, when used in the safe, the Vaal Orb will damage any items in the safe that can be damaged. As you can see, it's a very useful orb, so pick it up and don't waste it. By the blessed world

A blessed orb repeats an item's implicit modifier. They can be used on items of any rarity. New players generally ignore this currency, experienced players upgrade end-game items by maxing out their implicit modifier value. Therefore, the blessed bullet is not a popular bullet. Instead of 5 Blessed Orbs, you can get 1 Chaos Orb.

Cartographer's Chisel

It is used to improve the quality of the map to get more and better loot. It can be found at item level 50 or higher. Additionally, Zana, Master Cartographer (NPC in the Epilogue questline) sells 20 Cartographer's Chisels for 12 Chaos Orbs once per day.

In the divine world

Orb of the Herald

Similar to Orb of Horizons with one difference: this orb upgrades a card to a higher tier card. It can be found as a drop from Harbinger or Immortal Syndicate Safehouse when Cameria is placed there. An Orb of the Herald that you can exchange for 15 Orbs of Chaos.
