BTR-80A: Post-Soviet Environment

May 24, 2023develop

The BTR-80 armored personnel carrier is one of the iconic vehicles of the Soviet Army. Meet the workhorse of Russian motorized infantry in the next La Royale update!

BTR-80A, light tank, USSR, rank IV

feature:

  • 30mm cannon
  • top speed
  • amphibians
  • huge silhouette
  • armor difference

history

The BTR-80 armored personnel carrier was developed based on the experience of using the previous vehicles of the series BTR-60 and BTR-70 in combat and peacetime in the Afghan war. The vehicle features a new 260 hp engine, reinforced armor, improved muzzles for internal troops' small arms, and other improvements. The BTR-80's primary armament remained the heavy machine gun, however, due to the ineffectiveness of the machine gun against modern lightly armored targets, an improved vehicle with the 30mm 2A72 automatic cannon appeared in 1993, designated the BTR-80A. Vehicles of the BTR-80 family took part in all major armed conflicts in the territories of the former Soviet Union and in many other countries. Despite the introduction of more advanced armored personnel carriers, the BTR-80A is still in service with the Russian Army to this day.

The BTR-80A appears in the game as a new medium-range Soviet light tank. With the La Royale update, the iconic silhouette of the APC will appear in the hangar of the Soviet tanker!

The BTR-80A armored personnel carrier is designed to bring troops into combat areas and provide them with fire support, including against light armored vehicles. The vehicle is armed with a 30mm 2A72 autocannon and armor-piercing shells with a maximum penetration of about 60mm. The weapon has a good rate of fire, heats up slowly, and is belt-fed.

The 8x8 layout allows the BTR-80A to perform well even on soft ground. On paved roads, the BTR-80A can reach a speed of 87 km/h.

The downside of this APC is its size and little protection. The long hull and tall profile make the BTR-80A visible from a distance and difficult to hide, which is crucial for this vehicle as its armor protects only against shrapnel and light machine guns. Any .50 machine gun with armor-piercing rounds will easily go through this behemoth.

However, the charm of the legendary BTR-80A far outweighs its shortcomings! In the La Royale update, we invite you to test drive the BTR-80A along with dozens of other new vehicles where you can see new locations, new gameplay features and enhancements to your favorite games!

I can't wait for my 1940 tank to be left behind by this 1993 monster. It's basically a ratel 20 (minus missiles) sitting in an unconscious BR. Do some playtesting and upgrade to 7.3+ before release.

Ah yes, the car has less feathers than the t-34 in 7.3. Ratel has similar plumage, but with an ATGM of 6.7. I can comfortably see this at 6.0-6.3, but not much higher. Keep in mind that vehicle anachronisms have been in the game for a long time (one of them is R3)

The only reason Ratel 20 is 6.7 is because it has missiles. The BTR has nothing but mobility and a cannon, comparable to the Japanese Sub I-II 5.3 guns, almost the same penetration, less stable and easier to shoot. kill. It's fine where it is now, but we definitely need to see what happens.

please! For the love of God! No! This is a modern vehicle built in 1994, equipped with the same autocannon as the current BMP-3 and BMD-4 vehicles in the game. Putting him on the proper APFSDS belt moves him from 8.3-8.7 to the correct BR where he belongs. We have installed VBC and Type 87 RCVs in these BRs and they work great there. In 5.7, this car will take on 1943 vehicles like Panthers and M4A3E8s. It wouldn't be fun to play there, and it wouldn't be fun to fight...

You do know it has a maximum penetration of 65mm, right? Honestly, in most cases, there isn't much that can be written from the front, or even the side.

Only the BMP2M has that monster ammo belt. This is more suitable for 7.0-7.7

I honestly feel like this should get APDS/APFSDS and hit 7.7-8.7 instead of sitting at 5.7 without them. This thing will be more useful against other IFV/AFV than against your current 5.7 BR without APDS/APFSDS

accept. I'm surprised why they decided to offer this BTR instead of using stabilizers and heat. If you give him at least one APDS then he will live up to player expectations, 7.3 BR. as BMP 1

7.7 or 8.0 with APDS would be perfect.

I wish you had a better belt.

If you do, you'll definitely get a BR boost, but considering APDS is the only other belt you can get that isn't APFSDS, it's an easy tool to go from 7.7 to 8.3.

You need to strap it to the APDS and put it on 7.3-7.7 Please don't mess with the mid-tier with 80's vehicles. 87p and R3T20 models as well

agree! Gaijin should achieve the gap between 1940-1950 vehicles and modern vehicles such as Leopards and other Cold War era AFVs. Making a dedicated BR stand for MODERN light armored vehicles (Leopard 1, AMX-30, PT-76) would be an ideal place to place it. Making it worse than IRL on purpose is not the solution. Let the vehicle shine in the right BR!

Glad to finally see the BTR, but I'll add the APDS and move it to the 7.3 as the 5.7's 65mm boom isn't enough

I don't know 7.3 is too much, 6.3 should be better
