I can't wait to dive into bible verses to overcome negative thoughts with you. There is nothing more powerful than the Word of God to help us change negative thoughts that may be robbing us of peace and joy in our lives. No matter what negative thought patterns you have... there is good news: God has given us guidance in His Word on how to combat our thoughts!

Bible verses to overcome negative thoughts - Christian Counseling (1)

What are negative thoughts?

Negative thought patterns refer to any thought patterns about ourselves, others, or the world around us that include negative perceptions, expectations, and assumptions and are associated with unpleasant emotions.

Negative thought patterns refer to any thought patterns about ourselves, others, or the world around us that include negative perceptions, expectations, and assumptions and are associated with unpleasant emotions.Any negative thought pattern results in negative emotions.. It is impossible to practice a positive thought pattern and experience negative emotions as a result. The two just don't match. Consequently, negative thoughts result in negative emotions. For example, if I think about worst-case scenarios, I'm likely to feel anxious, hopeless, and overwhelmed.Do you see how easily negative thoughts lead to negative feelings?

Above all, take care of your heart, because everything you do flows from it. Proverbs 4:23

What is the impact of negative thinking?

As we have already identified, negative thoughts lead to negative emotions. Unfortunately, it doesn't stop there. Emotions flow into our behavior. Negative thoughts lead to negative emotions and then to negative actions or reactions. Additionally, negative thinking has been shown to increase stress, which affects our physical and mental health. You can see why it is so important to learn tocontrol our thoughts

Replace negative thoughts with positive thoughts

This advice is not meant to engage in the "power of positive thinking," nor is it meant to deny the reality of what you are facing. I would never encourage you to brainwash yourself! I am going to suggest that you consider how you see yourself, your circumstances, or the people around you. For example, I can look at a really difficult situation and focus on everything that is going wrong. Or I can focus on everything that works. I can choose to focus on God's attributes in my difficult situation. I can choose to practice gratitude instead of counting all the things that go wrong. We can choose to identify or accept the negative without camping there.

This is where the Word of God comes into play. We must have the purpose of renewing our minds with the Scriptures. God's Word naturally directs our gaze toward God's goodness, his promises, and his character, instead of fixing our gaze on problems. Again, I am not suggesting that you deny your problems, but rather that you choose to infuse the situation you find yourself in with the knowledge of God.

Bible verses to overcome negative thoughts

For the rest, brothers, everything that is true, everything that is honorable, everything that is just, everything that is pure, everything that is kind, everything that is admirable, if something is excellent, if something is Praiseworthy, think about this. Philippians 4:8

Philippians 4:8 is a beautiful Scripture that really talks about being intentional in our thoughts. Modern psychology points to a "negative bias" in each of us that leads to negative thoughts. In other words, we have a propensity to lean towards negativity instead of leaning towards the good things in our life. What do you usually set your mind on?

always rejoice, pray continually,Give thanks in everything, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

Gratitude is God's best for us.In all His wisdom, He knows how powerful our thoughts are and gives us instructions on how to combat negativity. Don't put your thoughts on what you don't have, put them on what you have. Counting your blessings directs your mind to the good things! Research at Berkeley found that people who practice gratitude are actually 25% happier than people who don't practice counting their blessings. I love it when science confirms what God has been saying all along!

Spending time praising God is another practice on the positive side of things. It is another antidote to negativity in our mental life. Prayer is how we can take the negative things in our lives and dump them on God because He cares about us. and howwe can identify the reality of what we are facing without dwelling on these things.

Because although we live in the world, we do not fight like the world. The weapons with which we fight are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We destroy arguments and all haughtiness that stands against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. 2 Corinthians 10:3-5

This may be one of my favorite Bible verses for overcoming negative thoughts. This gives us a model of how to fight the mind! So let's get through this together. In his letter to the Corinthians, Paul first explains that we do not fight like the world or with worldly weapons. Rather, we are aware of what we are doing.spiritualbattle. I want to explain that one of the ways the enemy engages in spiritual warfare against God's people is by lying. Sometimes these negative thoughts are actually lies that the enemy wants in our hearts to keep us from God, from our purpose in Christ Jesus, and from the peace and joy that God has for us.

Therefore, take on the whole armor of God, so that you can resist the bad day and, having finished everything, stand firm. shoes for your feet, dressed with the preparation that gives the gospel of peace. In all circumstances, take the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the fiery darts of the evil one; which is the word of God... Ephesians 6:13-17

To fight spiritual battles, we must use spiritual weapons, also known as weapons of our warfare or divine weapons. These weapons include the Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.Scripture is the Truth! We fight against lies and negativity with the Truth! We also pray in the Spirit. It is the Holy Spirit of God who gives power to our prayers and the truth of his Word.

With our divine weapons at our fingertips, we can tear down strongholds. A strength is defined as a strongly held belief.Do you have any firmly held beliefs that may not be true?If there are negative thoughts that do not agree with the Scriptures, we want toTake those thoughts captive.

May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasant in your presence, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer. Psalm 19:14

If you have a specific Bible verse to overcome negative thoughts, write it down on a Bible card and keep His Word in your heart. Choose to meditate on God's goodness, his promises or the wonders of his hands.

You keep in perfect peace the one whose thought is set on you, because he trusts in you. Isaiah 26:3

Putting our trust in God is the best place to find security in an ever-changing world. Anxious thoughts lead to feelings of anxiety, fear, and overwhelm. The thrill of peace flows from trusting God with your circumstances, your people, and your future.

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything, by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7

If your thoughts tend to be anxious, then this verse could be the scripture you cling to when negativity about the future or your circumstances begin to take over.

Think of things above, not things on earth. Colossians 3:2

We were made for glory. Sometimes our circumstances can seemquite. We are fallen, the world we live in is fallen. When negative thoughts arise, remember that even though we experience pain in this life, heaven awaits us.Our future with Christ is cause for hope!

But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, gave us lifewith Christ, even when we are dead in our crimes, it is by graceyou were saved. And God raised us up with Christ, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus,to manifest in the centuries to come the incomparable riches of his grace, manifested in his goodness towards us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God; not by works, so that no one can boast.we are the work of god, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand for us to put into practice. Ephesians 2:4-10

(emphasis mine)

If you tend to focus on thoughts that includenegative self-talkthen find a list of bible verses that you can hold on to and be reminded of onlyhow valuable you areto God Most High. We all need reminders that as children of God we are highly valued! God delights in you, loves you and adores you. You are important to him, so important that he sent his Son to die for you. Your true identity is only in Christ. Not who no one (including you) says you are.Stop thinking and talking to yourself with negative words.
